Anzac Spirit Lives On

Amid all the fun and laughs at The Henley on Broadwater, there is still a time for sombre reflection – and none more so than at this year’s Anzac Day ceremony. A group of attendees listened respectfully as a Vietnam veteran from the Southport RSL Sub-Branch read the Ode from the poem For the Fallen, while some residents also added their voices to acknowledge our war heroes.

Naturally, the Australian flag and poppies took centre stage, along with some medals and memorabilia which residents brought to the occasion. One resident, Heather, proudly displayed photos of her late war-veteran husband, along with his medals. Attendees then enjoyed morning tea and watched the Anzac service on television in the community lounge.

“It’s all about allowing people to still be a part of those services if they can’t get down to them,” said Lifestyle and Wellness Coordinator Samantha Hearn. “We like to bring the events to them.”
